Bathroom Renovation, Fergus Ontario

This bathroom renovation was for a lovely lady living on her own in Pine Meadows community at Bellwood Lake near Fergus Ontario. Her mobility was becoming limited, and so the old-fashioned bathtub/shower was no longer feasible or safe. The project involved removing the old tub, vanity, toilet and replacing with a custom-built walk-in shower with sliding glass doors. Special care and attention was required to preserve the stained glass window within the shower enclosure. A niche was added using the contrasting tile of the back wall, along with a grab bar for added safety. Mosaic tile in the shower and throughout gave the bathroom a clean, retro/new feel. Overall the project took five weeks start to finish.

London Road Basement Apartment

This quaint old house in the Exhibition Park area in Guelph had an unfinished basement with a separate entrance - perfect for adding a separate living space. The renovation involved first water-proofing to ensure everything remained dry, followed by framing, flooring, insulating, drywalling and finishing a bathroom, kitchen, living room and entrance way. New windows were also required. A big job that took several months to complete, but it turned out great and the homeowners are pleased to have the additional space for visitors and for supplemental income.

Barrier-Free Bathroom Reno - Unionville

This lovely family in Unionville hired me to renovate their daughter’s bathroom to make it more accessible, and easier to manoeuvre in and out of the shower using her wheelchair. The project involved full tear-out of bathtub, sink and dividing wall, and installation of a curbless shower and new pocket door. The challenge was to ensure everything sloped correctly, while ensuring a wheelchair could roll in and out without too much effort. The project also entailed replacing the window, and re-routing the heating duct. Happy to say the clients were very pleased with the final result…as was I!

Kitchen re-model Menzie Ave., Guelph

The original galley kitchen was so small two people could barely squeeze past each other, and the fridge and stove had to be located in the dining room. The solution was to enlarge the kitchen by moving the wall back three feet…which meant tearing down a lathe+plaster wall in a 100+ years old house…dusty!! Nevertheless, mission accomplished, and were able to preserve the studs to rebuild it, opening up enough space for the fridge and stove and additional cupboards. Matching doors were retro-fitted onto the old cupboards, tiled backsplash to give everything a new clean look, and a “feature wall” at the back (made from left over vinyl flooring!)

Kitchen Tiled Backsplashes

A new tiled backsplash is a great way to freshen up an kitchen or bathroom. Typically completed in a day or two, tiles provide an easy-to clean surface and protection from damage due to moisture or heat.
